How Community Collectors Are Expanding the Art World—Starting in the Garden

Image
Digital Template: © 2025 Tiffany T Johnson 2026 Health Literacy Collaborative Summit R&D HX Entry: Cultural Catalyst For years, we envisioned CultureCare.online as a platform that fuses heritage, art, and wellness — a living archive where Black artistry and intergenerational narratives are not only preserved but centered. This article crystallized the urgency of moving forward with our long-planned goals. It confirmed something we’ve known intuitively: when institutional spaces overlook Black creativity, our homes, gardens, and digital spaces become the galleries.  Re-imaging my own space within common community spaces—not just as decor, but as a place where values, identity, and vision live. It’s a call to curate life on my own terms and to honor narratives often overlooked. Key Insights from the Article Homes as Living Archives → Historically, Black collectors transformed personal spaces into sanctuaries of culture because traditional art institutions excluded their narr...

3 Years and 333 Days Later

Image
Tiffany Toru Johnson 3 Years and 333 Days Later In the wake of COVID-19 and the devastation of Winter Storm Uri in early 2021, I found myself standing at a crossroads. That season tested my resilience, reshaped my priorities, and opened my eyes to the depth of what needed healing — within myself, my community, and the spaces I would come to serve. On October 6, 2021 , I gained my first access to the HHS Learning Portal , stepping into a world where knowledge, health literacy, and empowerment intersect. Weeks later, on November 30, 2021 , I received my Universal Life Church ordination — a milestone that deepened my commitment to spiritual service, community care, and personal transformation. Three years and 333 days later — on October 6, 2025 — I plan to reflect on the journey these moments set into motion. What began in hardship evolved into purpose. Each decision, each learning opportunity, and each act of faith became part of a larger calling — to build, to archive, to c...

Evidence bank is a good way to organize information from multiple sources

Diet and Mood:  Nutrient Deficiencies: Deficiencies in essential nutrients like zinc, iron, B vitamins, magnesium, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids are associated with worsened mood and decreased energy. (Source 1.2) Blood Sugar Fluctuation: High intakes of refined carbohydrates and sugar-sweetened drinks can cause rapid blood sugar spikes and crashes, leading to irritability, anxiety, and low energy. (Sources 1.2, 1.5, 4.4) Inflammation: A chronic, low-grade inflammatory state, often caused by an unhealthy diet, has been linked to depression. Research suggests that a Mediterranean-style diet and increasing omega-3 intake can reduce inflammation and improve mood. (Sources 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 4.2) Gut-Brain Connection: The gut microbiome, the collection of bacteria in the gastrointestinal system, plays a role in mood regulation. Research is exploring how certain foods and microbes produce chemicals that affect brain function, including...

African Diasporic Gardening Heritage 08.13.2025

Image
In the heart of Fort Worth, as spring breathes new life into our soil, a deeper story takes root – one that intertwines the rich cultural heritage of the African Diaspora with the very act of gardening. More than just a pastime, tending the earth has been a vital thread in the fabric of Black communities, connecting generations through tradition, resilience, and the cultivation of both food and spirit. For centuries, even amidst the harshest realities, gardening has served as a powerful act of agency and cultural preservation for people of African descent. From the ingenuity of enslaved Africans cultivating hidden plots for sustenance and maintaining cultural practices through specific crops, to the vibrant victory gardens of the Civil Rights era, and the contemporary urban farming initiatives blooming across our cities, the connection to the land runs deep. Here in Fort Worth, this heritage manifests in countless ways – perhaps in the familiar aroma of collard greens simmering ...

The Great Wealth Transfer Is Coming — But Are We Digitally Ready?

Image
The Great Wealth Transfer Is Coming — But Are We Digitally Ready? By Tiffany Johnson | In collaboration with digital tools for cultural archiving We’re living in a moment historians will one day study: trillions of dollars are about to change hands across generations. Financial experts and tech giants like Microsoft are calling it “The Great Wealth Transfer” — an estimated $68 to $84 trillion being passed down from Baby Boomers to Millennials and Gen Z in the coming decades. But let’s pause and ask a deeper question: What exactly is being transferred? And who gets to keep it? As a Black digital curator, storyteller, and community wellness advocate, I see this not just as an economic shift — but as a cultural crossroads. If we’re only thinking about money and property, we’re missing half the story. Wealth isn’t just financial. It’s also intellectual property, digital creations, oral history, family archives, cultural traditions, and hard-won knowledge passed down through creativ...

Art Promotion Strategies

Image
A younger artist and an older art collector working together, surrounded by art that blends traditional and modern styles. This beautifully symbolize the passing of knowledge and the fusion of past and present within the Black art community. This is a great idea, as art can be a powerful tool for education, cultural pride, and personal growth. The concept of blending the digital art world with the intimacy of a personal space is very compelling. It's a "Virtual Home Gallery" where you can select different pieces of digital art and see how they would look displayed in a personal space. This demonstrates how technology can bring a curator's experience right into your home. This is the digital continuation of the tradition: Black collectors curating, preserving, and valuing art in online spaces that reflect the intimacy and intention of the home. It’s an act of creating space where institutions still lag. And in this fluid future, where the physical is uncertain, the di...

Internet Archive as a Federal Depository Library

Image
The designation of the Internet Archive as a Federal Depository Library presents significant opportunities for enhancing access to government information, but it also raises challenges that need careful consideration to ensure equitable and effective service. Designating the Internet Archive as a Federal Depository Library comes with several pros and cons: Pros Increased Access to Information : Provides broader public access to government documents and resources, especially for those who may not have access to traditional libraries. Digital Preservation : The Internet Archive specializes in preserving digital content, ensuring long-term access to federal documents that might otherwise be lost. Enhanced Research Capabilities : Researchers can access a wealth of information in one centralized location, improving efficiency and accessibility. Support for Open Government : Aligns with initiatives for transparency and open government, promoting citizen engageme...
